AI Coach Coming soon
The AI coach that reads your tactics board.
An assistant coach inside the studio. It reads your boards in real metres, drafts new ones, plans training and knows the studio. Ask it about a phase and it answers in metres, from your own positions.
The Preview is open to every signed-in coach in the web studio, free plan included: AI Coach’s own screens on scripted answers from our tests.
The left-back is only 4 m from the ball carrier, but nearly 12 m ahead of his centre-backs.

From the PreviewAnalyse phase 2 of Why The Line Steps Up.
In “Why The Line Steps Up”, phase 2, the left-back’s press opens space behind him because the covering defenders remain deep. The danger zone highlights that gap.
- LB, left-back: at x = 30.5 m, he is only 4 m from the ball carrier. He can apply pressure, but he is nearly 12 m ahead of his centre-backs.
- The near centre-back: he is about 20 m from the left-back. That leaves too much ground to cover if their winger plays behind the press.
- The two centre-backs: they are 15 m apart, with their 9, the striker, ahead of and between them. Both must keep sight of his run.
On the pitch: as the left-back travels to press, move the near centre-back forward and towards that flank, with the other centre-back and the right-back sliding across together. Aim first for 8–10 m of cover behind and inside him.
The trigger matters: step up when the ball carrier is under pressure, not simply because the left-back has jumped. If the winger can look up and pass freely, protect the space behind instead.

From the PreviewWe play 4-4-2 and their 10 keeps dropping between our lines. Who picks him up?
Your nearest central midfielder picks up their 10 between the lines. A centre-back only steps out if the midfielder cannot get there and there is cover behind.
Keep the jobs clear:
- Ball-side central midfielder: get goal-side of their 10, close enough to stop him turning. If he receives facing his own goal, keep him facing that way.
- Other central midfielder: tuck in and protect the pass into their striker. Do not both chase the 10.
- 4 and 5, your centre-backs: stay connected. If one steps forward, the other covers the striker and the full-backs narrow.
Aim for roughly 10–12 metres between midfield and defence when settled, then squeeze as the ball travels backwards. A bigger gap gives their 10 room whichever player you assign.
Your touchline cue: “Nearest midfielder gets tight, the other protects. Centre-backs talk.”
Does their 10 drop behind your central midfielders, or move wider into the space behind your wide midfielders? That changes who takes him.

From the PreviewOur 4-3-3 pressing their 4-2-3-1 goal kick: their keeper has the ball, we press high and show them inside.
Our 4-3-3 presses their 4-2-3-1 goal kick, using the pass to a full-back as the trigger. The winger approaches from outside to block the touchline route and invite an inside pass, where our midfield is ready to trap the receiver.

From the PreviewA 75 minute session on pressing after losing the ball, under-14s, 16 outfield players and 2 keepers.
An under-14 session developing the reaction immediately after losing possession. A progressive possession warm-up leads into counter-pressing practice, then directional play and a game where players decide whether to press together or recover their shape.

From the PreviewIn my Pressing Playbook, when should we NOT press? Give me the page.
Page 20: “False triggers: when to wait”, Chapter 03, “Read: the triggers”.
Do not jump to press when:
- The ball-carrier faces forward with time and space.
- Your jump leaves an opponent free behind you, with nobody taking responsibility for him.
- Your supporting line is too far away.
- A long aerial pass gives the receiver time to control without pressure.

Instead, block the passing lane and guide play towards where you want it. Stay close enough to arrive on the next genuine trigger. The book’s message is: “Waiting is not passive.” The Pressing Playbook, chapter 03, p. 20
What it does
Four jobs your assistant does, inside the studio.
-
Analyse
It reads your boards
Share a board and ask about any phase: who is free, where the gap opens, how far apart your lines are. It answers in metres, from your own positions.
- PositionsSpacingSpeeds
Draft
It drafts boards
Describe a moment, send a photo of a whiteboard or ask for a whole play. The studio checks positions, spacing and speeds before you see it, and it opens as a new board.
-
Plan
It plans training
Blocks, grid sizes and minutes for your age group and numbers, with a board for every block and a sheet to print.
- 910847
Study
It knows your books and your squad
Ask the e-books you own and it answers with the page. Drop in a squad table and it reads minutes, starts and positions.
Why it is different
An AI is only as good as the board it reads.
A chatbot looking at a screenshot guesses. AI Coach works on the Studio’s boards, where every player, ball and cone has a real position, and the studio makes what it drafts real.
-
01
It reads positions, not pictures
Every Studio board sits on a real-size pitch, so every player has a place in metres. AI Coach reads those, which is why it says 4 m and 12 m instead of “quite far”.
-
02
The studio checks every draft
A board AI Coach drafts is checked for positions, spacing and speeds before you see it, then opens as a normal board you can edit, animate and share.
-
03
It cites the page
Ask the e-books you own and the answer comes with the chapter and the page, so you can read the rest yourself.
-
04
It knows the studio
How to add a phase, draw a run or record a Team Talk: ask it and it answers with the studio’s own steps.

How does AI Coach know the distances on my board?
Every Studio board is drawn on a real-size pitch, so every player has a position in metres. AI Coach reads those positions from a board you share with it, so it can say a full-back is 4 m from the ball carrier and 12 m ahead of his centre-backs instead of guessing from a picture.
Can AI Coach build a tactics board for me?
Yes. Describe a moment, send a photo of a whiteboard or ask for a whole play. The studio checks positions, spacing and speeds before you see the draft, and it opens as a new board you edit like any other.
Does AI Coach use the Playbook e-books?
It answers from the e-books you own, with the page, and it can turn one into a study plan for your team. It only searches books on your own shelf.
